The Vaad Harabanim of Pittsburgh
The Vaad Harabanim of Greater Pittsburgh is pleased to announce that the bakery in the Giant Eagle supermarket at the corner of Murray Avenue and Bartlett Street in Squirrel Hill is now certified kosher by the Vaad. All the baked goods sold at the bakery counter are kosher, parve and pas Yisroel, including cakes, cookies, pastries and bagels. Many of the packaged baked goods and breads sold in the aisles near the bakery counter are also fresh baked by Giant Eagle and certified by the Vaad. Any packaged bread or baked goods that bear the Vaad's kosher certification symbol are kosher, parve and pas yisroel. However, one must check each package of bread or baked goods in the aisles in front of or near the bakery counter for the Vaad's symbol of certification (or other certifications) as one would check any other item purchased in a supermarket.
The Vaad symbols of kosher certification include: VHP and
The Murray and Bartlett Giant Eagle bakery plant and bakery counter will, of course, be closed on Shabbos and Yom Tov. Be aware that you may see the one of the community's Rabbis or the Vaad's mashgiach enter the supermarket on Shabbos and Yom Tov. This is to regularly check the that the bakery plant and counter remains closed on those days. We welcome the Giant Eagle bakery to the group of institutions that are certified by the Vaad including: Aaron and Ari's, Creative Kosher Catering, Milky Way, Murray Avenue Kosher, Sweet Tammy's, Stagno's, Rita's Ices, Weinberg Village and Weinberg Terrace.
